The Power of Words | 5 Ways To Use Your Words Better

An inevitable part of our daily lives is conversation. Whether it is with ourselves or with others, we converse and when we converse, we use WORDS. For most part of my adolescent age, I was in constant conversation with myself, either through writing or speaking.
I remember having a diary when I was in boarding school (senior secondary school) and I was very consistent with it. I'd write a summary of everything I did each day and I'd also write how I felt about them. When I left boarding school, I became less consistent with it and started doing more of personal conversation (which I still do till today). Most days, I was reprimanding myself over something I didn't do right or get right and I never even took time to appreciate myself for even getting through the day. Alot of which played a role in the person I was then.
Most times, the power of words are overlooked. We just say them and then be on our way, unbothered about the impact they make. We fail to realize the extent of harm and hurt we cause ourselves and others or the joy and hope we could bring with our words.
Words are powerful and once they are said, they can't be there taken back. The wise words from Pindar says "Words have longer life than deeds". In other words, you could you could do good deeds, but the moment a 'bad' word leaves your mouth, all your good deeds are forgotten.
It makes me wonder, how many times do we say words that build and uplift people? How many times do we even say kind words to ourselves? A majority of us throw our words around without caring about the consequences and gradually, these words start to bear fruit. Fruits that may be good or evil, depending on the words that were planted.
Lately I started speaking powerful words to myself. Words that uplift me and make me think better of myself. Words that help build a more confident me.

CONCLUSION

Compliment and commend yourself and others. Take note of your lapses but don't dwell too much on them. Praise the good in yourself and others while you carefully work on your lapses or advice people to work on their lapses. If you must reprimand yourself or others, do so very kindly. For instance
a. "I did so well today, but I should definitely take more time to organize my space." as opposed to "I am so scattered and disorganized, look how messy my room is".
b. "Sofia you have a nice result but put a little more effort in chemistry" as opposed to "Sofia your result hurts my eyes, look how badly you did in chemistry".
